Changes to recalls on Product Safety Australia

The ACCC is making a change to the types of recalls that we publish on the Product Safety Australia website. Going forward we will only publish recalls for consumer products that the ACCC is responsible for regulating.

Specific product type recalls

A different government agency is responsible for recalls depending on the specific type of product and what category it falls in. Specific categories of products include:

• agriculture and veterinary products
• drugs and therapeutic goods
• food
• road vehicles and road traffic safety.

General consumer products

Any products that fall outside the specific product categories are known as general consumer products. These are usually products for personal use around the home.

The ACCC is responsible for monitoring and regulating recalls for general consumer products.

How recalls are changing on Product Safety Australia

We are making a change to the types of recalls we will publish on the Product Safety Australia website.

In the past the ACCC published recalls for all consumer products. This included both recalls we are responsible for as well as recalls other government agencies are responsible for.

In the future the ACCC will only publish recalls for general consumer products that we are responsible for regulating. Recalls that are regulated by other government agencies will continue to be published by the relevant agency. However, they will no longer also be published on Product Safety Australia.

This change will be gradual as we work through the specific product type recalls regulated by other government agencies.

Which recalls have changed
